A nice impression on wove paper, published by the Société Française d'Editions d'Art, Paris. 

Introduced by a study on William Nicholson by Octave Uzanne, the almanach - which this plate is from - includes twelve color plates facing the month in which the illustrated sport was most often practiced.

Sir William Nicholson was an English painter, engraver and illustrator. In 1896, he started his first woodcuts. With his friend James Pryde, he designed posters published under the pseudonym The brothers Beggarstaff. His is particularly famous for his study of human faces and his art of contrast.
