This nice impression on laid paper is from the book Les Vues des Maisons royales et des villes conquises par Louis XIV which was published between 1666 and 1680 in Paris and engraved by many artists as Jean Marot, Israel Silvestre, Sébastien Leclerc, Pierre Brissart, François d'Orbay...
The castle of Madrid was located in the Boulogne's wood (west of Paris). Iniated by the French king François Irst, it was the royal residence of the French queen Catherine de Médicine and his song Charles IX. Abandonned by the kings, the castle failed into ruins just before the French Revolution and collapses in 1792.
