Joseph Nigg was an Austrian painte of flowers and on porcelain. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna with Johann Baptist Drechsler. From 1800 to 1848, Nigg worked as a flower painter in a Viennese porcelain factory. His majestic bouquets of flowers were popularized and spread abroad with prints after his death. The process of reproduction used here - chromolithography - was meticulous and required the use of a stone plate for each color.
