This print portrays American naval forces that served off Cuba during the Spanish American War. Among the vessels featured in the print are the Iowa, the largest battleship in the American fleet, and the cruiser New Orleans, a highly modern warship and one of the two most expensive auxiliary vessels purchased in 1898.
Currier & Ives was a successful American printmaking firm based in New York from 1835 to 1907. Our victorious fleets in Cuban waters is a the last-known print the firm produced.
