Brevet de canne

handcoloured lithograph

c. 1860 - 1870

A nice impression on wove paper, printed by P. Didion, Metz

After the death of his associate Gangel, Paulin Didion took all his certficicates (typography, lithography and intaglio). He pursued the same type of popular imagery that made the success of the Dembour company, then Gangel: military, religious or moral subjects, certificates, ducks, images for games ... However, at the 1870's war started the beginning of the difficulties. At his death, the company passed to Jean Jules Delhalt in 1879 and in 1892, under the direction of Alfred Delhalt, it left Metz for Nancy.

This certificat hasn't been issued. The dance's, cane's, boxing's and baton's certificates attest to the use of these practices as military gymnastic training.

Sheet: 315 x 485 mm.

Image: 210 x 400 mm.

Condition: light-staining, slight scattered foxing, very small tears in the edges.
