Plate 58 from Figures de Différents Caractères, Recueil Jullienne
Etching
1726 - 1728
A nice impression on laid paper, unidentified printmaker, inscription in the plate "J.au. S.[culpsit]"
The Recueil Jullienne, in which this plate is from, is due to the initiative of the rich businessman and amateur Jean de Jullienne (1686-1766) who, from 1723 approximately to 1735, gathered engravers and publishers to propose for sale nearly six hundred plates connected in four volumes, posthumous tribute to the genius of Antoine Watteau. The first two volumes Figures de Differents Caractères reproduce Watteau's drawings. The other two, designated under the title of Oeuvre gravé, reproduce the paintings and ornaments.
Plate: 187 x 232 mm.
Sheet: 347 x 520 mm.
Condition: full margins, slight light-staining, slight foxing , small tears in the edges.
