FICHE 13298
(Lyon 1727 - 1801 Parme)
L'auteur des figures à la Grecque
after Begnino BOSSI (1727 - 1792)
Etching
Impression on laid paper, annotated "Milan 1740" belowe the image.
This plate is one of nine in the collection Masquerade à la Grecque, which humorously presents the neo-classical style known as "à la grecque". The engravings, made by Bossi after Petitot, depict figures dressed in architectural and ornamental pieces, which, when assembled together, create an unusual costume: pyramid, column base, horn of plenty, laurel tori, fluted column... On this last panel of the collection, Petitot depicts himself, draped in antique style, leaning against a fluted column, wearing a cap and square glasses. In his right hand he holds a compass and a building plan.
Sheet: 240 x 171 mm.
Condition: impression trimmed to the image, very slight foxing. On the back of the sheet, adhesive residues on the four corners.
